THE BARBER OF HARIA

On the island of Lanzarote, Haria is a town distinguished for its foliage. Yet here, behind green wooden doors on the main village street, you won't find any excess growth. Known simply as El Muno 'The Dumb'; this man can't speak, but his wet shave won't pull any punches. From the first sweep of a razor sharp blade, to the obligatory splash of stinging alcohol, he provides service with silent, charismatic charm. A quaint, dimly lit space, barely two square meters wide, decorated with the kind of paraphernalia that makes a visit more artefact than haircut. Documents and photos on UD Lanzarote players through history adorn the walls, alongside girls in kitsch, Carry On poses.

Calle La Hoya, Haria, Lanzarote. €5 for a wet shave.
